Job Summary:
The System Admin is responsible for the networks of a variety of clients of an IT Managed Services firm. The System Admin will work part of a small team, where the other members have different IT specialties. The System Admin will maintain and administer computer systems and environments, diagnose problems, and recommend and implement solutions to those problems. The System Admin will research and design systems with network and data security in mind and monitor network performance and make adjustments as needed.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution – Determine causes of failures and what to do to resolve errors and failures
- Maintain Windows Networks and related Computer Environments, including computer hardware, systems software, applications software and configurations
- Diagnose hardware and software problems, and recommend and implement solutions
- Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations
- Plan, coordinate and implement network security measures in order to protect data, software and hardware
- Design, configure, test and maintain computer hardware, networking software and operation systems
- Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations, and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes
- Monitor network performance in order to determine whether adjustments need to be made
- Answer technical support phone calls, and assist users in resolving technical problems
- Able to listen to others in order to determine the source of their technical problems, and able to explain solutions effectively
Qualifications and Skills:
- Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator or similar role
- Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management
- Knowledge of system security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery
- Ability to create scripts in Python, Perl or other language
- Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms
- Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude
- Excellent communication skills
- BSc/BA in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline
- Enjoy learning and have a desire to improve skills
- Cannot resist a good, technical challenge
- Work well with others and respect the inputs of others
- Self-motivated and self-starter
